Well, November is literally just around the corner, and I’m taking part in NaNoWriMo for the second time in my life. I had what I thought was a cool idea for a story, but after plotting for a month, I had several notebook pages full of plot but no real feeling for the story. It sucked. I could have worked with it, but it really didn’t sing to me, and I knew that I’d have hated it if I’d written it.
So–I changed my mind. More than half-way through September, with sign-ups beginning on October 1st, I decided to try to plot a totally new and different story. The catch, for me, was: if I couldn’t make the plot work again, I’d either be stuck with a story I hated or I’d have no story at all. I really wanted to take part in the challenge, because I haven’t really “tested” myself in a long time.
Well, I don’t have as many pages of plot notes for this one, but I feel a lot better about the story. To make things more interesting (for me), I’m also signed up for a Quantum Bang in the coming year, so I was working on that story as well. I’ll have to set it aside while I write in November, because I’m totally not crazy enough to write two different stories at the same time, but I think I’m up to the challenge. And my creative juices are really flowing–not to sound gross or anything. I think this will be good for me. I’m hoping to have the Quantum Bang story finished by the end of December, so there’s another goal to reach.
My new mantra?
“Deadlines Are Fun!”

I never bother with many notes, so long as I’m inspired to write. Thankfully, last year for November I was unemployed, this year I’m recovering from surgery. Lots of time to write!! I wish you luck and can’t wait to read what you come up with.
